'Somata' series 2021. Monoprints by Laura Crehuet Berman

Colour, Shape, and Space: Material and Conceptual Spaces through Print Media

Berman's work is grounded in earth science and the body. Focusing on colour and the building of relationships through abstracted forms, iteration is at the heart of her practice. Through printed layers and physical pattern-building, Berman's images build narratives about the connections between time, play, and discovery.

This presentation will share Berman's ongoing research on the material and cultural study of colour through the lens of contemporary printmaking art, through her current work as a Fulbright Scholar at the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research at University of Canberra.

Speaker:
Laura Crehuet Berman is a native of Barcelona, Spain, where her love for pattern, design and bold colors originated. She has exhibited in over 150 exhibitions at galleries and museums internationally and her prints are widely collected. Laura creates images inspired by the natural world that layer time, space, form and color together. Laura is currently a Professor at the Kansas City Art Institute, where she has taught printmaking and book arts since 2002. She received her BFA from Alfred University and her MFA from Tulane University. Laura is currently working as a Fulbright Scholar, sponsored by the Fulbright Australia program and the University of Canberra to further her research on art, color and landscape.
